The project - Atlante del Cinema

Since the beginning of cinema, the unique atmosphere of Naples and Campania has attracted directors and producers from all over the world; in fact, one of the first landscape views of the Gulf was created by the Lumière brothers. In more recent years, the uniqueness of our landscapes has served as a background for increasingly high quality "Made in Campania" movie and television productions: the number of projects carried out increases, but also and mainly their artistic and cultural value, as appears from the wide public consensus and the presence of many of these works at the most important film festivals and awards of international relevance. From the Venice Film Festival to the Cannes Film Festival, from Berlin to Rome, from the European Film Awards to the David di Donatello and the Nastri d'Argento, the new wave of movies and television series set in Campania in recent years has not gone unnoticed and continues to achieve awards and recognition.

The Atlante del Cinema in Campania project is part of this perspective. It was created as a tool for the enhancement of an extraordinary historical, cultural and environmental heritage, but also to celebrate the special relationship between cinema and territory that continues to bear surprising fruit in this region. The Atlante is a vital piece of the entire Ecosistema Digitale per la Cultura della Regione Campania, an ambitious universe of intertwined contents, which testify the distinctiveness, ingenuity and richness of this land.

From the beginnings of silent cinema to the present day, the iconicity of Campania, the thousand facets of the territory, the richness of the cultural heritage and artistic and literary traditions, have attracted and inspired the most various projects: great popular productions alongside auteur productions, great visual and emotional impact, all characterised by a strong sense of place. The ability of the territory to inspire and welcome the creativity of authors and support the commitment of great production challenges, is frequently the key to the success of important international events and co-productions, as in the case of "My brilliant friend", which has gone from being a literary saga of global success to a record-breaking television series.

This well-defined cinematographic identity allows the Campania Region and the Film Commission to build a system that helps to strengthen a sector with ancient roots in the cultural, artistic, artisan and industrial fabric of our region. The project aims to interpret the photogeny of Campania to rediscover its ancient cosmopolitan vocation in a still modern and current sense, as well as its natural creativity and warm brightness. Atlante del Cinema takes up the challenge and invites users to lead an intuitive and engaging ideal journey in Campania, allowing everyone to explore the precious corners of the sets and discover curiosities about movies, actors and active filmmakers in the area.
