THE CABINET OF WONDERS
An immersive space to relive the Neapolitan musical tradition
On 15th October, with the opening of the 2021/2022 season, Trianon Viviani - Theatre of the Neapolitan Song – introduces the "Cabinet of wonders", the immersive reality of Neapolitan song as well as a unique and innovative project in the Italian and international scene.
This virtual space, designed by Bruno Garofalo from an idea of the artistic director Marisa Laurito, leads the audience into the history of Neapolitan song, thanks to the great programme of digitalisation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, promoted by the Campania Region and carried out by Scabec, the in-house company of the Region. Thanks to digital devices, visitors will virtually enter a bygone times Naples, for a multisensory experience through the history of Neapolitan song.
The Cabinet of wonders provides a thirty minutes "immersive walk" in the sounds, colours and images in motion, tracing the period from the end of the nineteenth century until 1940, when the largest number of musicians and poets were involved in the production of the so-called "classic" (Neapolitan song). The historical documents will be interlaced with contemporary performances of traditional music, with philological respect for both scores and lyrics. The walk is divided into several thematic itineraries. The first is dedicated to the market, which stands for the dynamism of people in the streets, and this is the reason why songs inspired by the vendors have been chosen; the second is dedicated to the sea, another special theme of the classic Neapolitan song, which allows the audience to dive into sea sceneries and serenades; the third is a landscape itinerary in Campania, from the Amalfi Coast to the inland. Photos and paintings of the period, and an in costume environmental recreation guarantees everybody a journey through time and space in one of the richest contexts in the history of song.
The visit lasts thirty minutes and is limited to fifteen people by reservation.
Green pass and masks are required.
Free entrance until November.
