2021 Campania Teatro Festival Fourteenth edition of the Festival

September/december programme

The programme of initiatives will include more than 160 events in a month, located in safe and outdoor venues.
10 sections, 70 absolute debuts and 3 national debuts.
The preview will be on March 19 with Maestro Riccardo Muti at Teatro Mercadante.
In September, the festival will focus on the Dance section and the International one with performances by Argentine director Marina Otero, Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou and Swiss director Christoph Marthaler.

The 2021 edition, the fifth directed by Ruggero Cappuccio, will go down in history as the one where Napoli Teatro Festival becomes Campania Teatro Festival. This is a way to bring the trend forward since starting from 2022, the festival is gradually involving the whole region, strengthening the link between the beauty of landscape and the architectural heritage. Renaming the event aims also at reaffirming concrete commitment of the Campania Region in support of a multidisciplinary exhibition, organised by Fondazione Campania dei Festival, which combines well both national and international culture with some of the most evocative location of the Campania region.

The 2021 edition will be promoted through the involvement of many important Italian and International theatre productions, but most of all through the enhancement of talent and professionalism of theatre companies operating for years in Campania, with an artistic and sometimes social commitment. More than 1500 workers belonging to the entertainment industry and coming from our region will join the 2021 edition of Campania Teatro Festival. This a tangible sign of support to show-business workers who are employed in a sector that has always been precarious and that keep on suffering the daily and harsh economic consequences of the pandemic.

Real Bosco di Capodimonte, with the setting-up of eight stages, will be the main venue of the Festival. This year it will host for a month a real theatrical citadel including several locations such as Cortile della Reggia, Casino della Regina, Giardino Paesaggistico di Porta Miano, Manifattura della Porcellana, Giardino Paesaggistico Pastorale, Praterie della Capraia, il Giardino dei Principi e lo spazio del Cisternone. This choice was determined by important reasons including the vastness of the spaces, currently fundamental because of the times we are living in, and the successful experience of the previous edition.

Other events will take place in Teatro Grande di Pompei, al Belvedere di San Leucio a Caserta, a Montesarchio (in piazza Umberto I e nel Museo Archeologico del Sannio Caudino), and Teatro Naturale di Pietrelcina, nell'Anfiteatro di Avella and in Salerno, nel Chiostro del Duomo and out of Teatro Ghirelli. Other locations in Naples will be Archivio di Stato di Napoli, Refettorio del Chiostro di San Domenico Maggiore, Made in Cloister and Sala Causa, always in Capodimonte. The premiere with the direction of Maestro Riccardo Muti will be on the 19th of March at Teatro Mercadante, while the September shows will be staged in three different city theatres: Bellini, Trianon and Politeama.
