Between myth and legend, there are many figures that accompany children's stories, involving fantastical or legendary elements such as the munaciello, who brings good luck to those who need it most and distributes misfortune to those who deserve it.  Matilde Serao, in her Leggende Napoletane (Neapolitan Legends), openly declares that, in her opinion, the Munaciello really existed, but there is also the beautiful 'mbriana, who for the Neapolitan people represents a benevolent spirit, guarding the home.
