Quartieri di vita (“Neighbourhoods of Life”) is an educational festival of social theatre organized by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, with the support of the Campania Region. It takes place during the Christmas period and it aims to allow the vulnerable social groups to explore new ways of experiencing art. The festival - recognized among the special projects of MiBACT (“the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism”) - supports the organisations engaged in risk areas in the expenses of workshops and following exhibitions.
Quartieri di vita aims to promote the theatre organisations, operating in Naples and the entire territory of Campania, which have been working for years in support of the vulnerable social groups. Theatre, dance, music and, art workshops explore individual, cultural and racial boundaries in the name of integration, sharing, and social inclusion. The results of the different training and production workshops - amongst which there are shows ready for the stage, visual projects, concerts, and exhibitions - have a concluding moment in the Christmas period which is open to the public.
At-risk teenagers, psychiatric patients, inmates in juvenile jails, blind children, political refugees: these are just some of the lively characters with which Quartieri di vita has built a dialogue through the liberating ritual granted by theatre. Theatre is also meant as the possibility of training not only as actors: in recent years the festival has traced a path that has led the workshops’ participants to acquire professional skills useful for the full employment in the theatre field as set designers, costume designers, or technicians.
